For the 1967 smash hit Good Times (just kidding, it bombed), George Barris customized these two 1966 Mustangs for the film’s stars Sonny and Cher. The movie was directed by William Friedken, who also directed The Exorcist and The French Connection. I’ll let you guess which films did better at the box office. AMT also made a model kit of these cars so you could play along and sing I Got You Babe at home.

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ran a piece on these two cars back in 2009 with a ton more pictures.

Am I the only one who thinks that interior screams transmittable disease?

I’m not sure this was Barris’ best effort.

I’m pretty sure Barris’ best effort was someone else’s car that he took credit for.

Even if someone else actually did these, this is one that I sure nobody minds him claiming.

I think it was meant to match Sonny’s famous vest.

I remember the model kits. They were around for a while, IIRC. I think Sonny’s car is pretty sharp, actually.

I can’t really say I’m a fan. By the look of the grille, it looks like Barris turned them into Pontiacs.

They’re the female to the Pontiac’s male. A GTO nose might nuzzle in there just right.
